Oh Dave, You Got Me

I keep saying that I’m too old to go to concerts now.  I don’t like the dumb kids screaming at any reference to drinking or being high, regardless how vague it may be.  Or God forbid an F-bomb replace one of the words in the radio version of the song.  Really?  That warrants an out of control scream?  I also don’t like frat boys screaming lyrics in my ear.

My freshman year of college, my roommate, Kristi, introduced me to The Dave Matthews Band.  We listened to Under The Table And Dreaming and Remember Two Things ad nauseum.  My sophomore year of college we actually went down to the local record store for the midnight release of Crash.  I have never been one to have the first of anything, but I had to have that CD in my hot little hand as soon as possible.

I don’t go to a lot of concerts under the best of circumstances, but whenever Dave is playing, I have a hard time saying no.  The last time I saw him play was in September of 2009.

A little pre-party before the concert with Abby (left), me (center) and a girl who I called “Warehouse” because she had been to over 50 Dave concerts. For those of you who don’t know, Warehouse is the name of the DMB Fan Club.

I met my BFF, Sara there as well, but by the time I met up with her we were both a little crazy from the “excitement” in the air.  It had nothing to do with the mass quantities of beers we were drinking.

Before that concert, it had been 3 years since I had seen Dave live.  In August of 2006, I was 8 months pregnant and thought it would be a good idea to go see Dave with our friends, Joe and Jill.

Ryan was carrying some sympathy pregnancy pounds.

So once again, it has been 3 years since I have seen Dave live and he just so happens to be in the neighborhood in a couple of months.  Ryan’s birthday is less than 2 weeks after the date of the concert and so he suggested we go to celebrate.  I don’t think it was just a coincidence that he turned the channel to a concert of Dave playing at Radio City Music Hall with Tim Reynolds to get me in the mood, if you will.

Well, it worked.  I encourage all of you to check your schedules and if you are free on September 7th, grab some tickets and come on out to Chula Vista!  We’ll be getting the lawn seats because 1) they are close to the bathrooms and 2) they are cheap.

    • I hope you ditch your seats and sit with us back on the lawn! That’s where all the cool kids will be. I say we do a little pre-gaming!!

  1. Did I tell you about Dave playing for Q a couple of years ago. It was rad. I felt like a groupie I was so close to him I nearly threw a piece of clothing at him.

    • Oh yeah, I knew about that. I worked there for 5 years and they have him come and play less than 2 years after I quit. At the 20 year party all we got was Natalie Cole!

  2. Oh that’s hilarious LOL I bought my wife a Dave Matthews Live CD about 7 years ago and it’s been about 2 or 3 since I last heard a track from it… and guess what randomly came up on my iPod this afternoon? I couldn’t tell you what song it was… except it wasn’t Ants Marching…

I used to make fun of his voice all the time… I said he sounds like a teenager just hitting puberty 😛

    • I think this concert will prove if I’m too old or not. I like to think that I can hang with all the twenty-somethings, but when it comes to loud noises and alcohol, I think my tolerances are starting to wane.
