Golden Birthday!

It’s Rory’s 3rd birthday today!!  The Golden Birthday.  I had to wait 29 years for my Golden Birthday so when it finally came around; I threw myself a big party.  And because I was pretty sure I was going to be pregnant on my 30th, I had to get in one last big party before I took on the role of Mom.

My water broke at 6:00am on March 3, 2009.  I had gotten up to pee and when I crawled back in bed, I felt a little pop.  It was the exact same thing that happened when I went into labor with Kamryn so I was pretty sure that there was going to be a baby coming soon.

After calling the hospital and assuring them that I knew my water broke because it was my second child, I told them I would be in an hour or so.  It’s funny how I thought I had become an expert on child birth just because I had already had a baby.  I remember my mom telling me that she shaved her legs before going to the hospital after she went into labor with my brother and suddenly that seemed like a good idea.

I told Ryan my water broke as he was on his way downstairs for a workout and he just stood and looked at me – I told him to go ahead and workout – I was going to take a shower.  This reaction was much different than when I went into labor with Kamryn.  I had to wake him from a dead sleep at 2:00am and he flew out of bed like I poked him with a cattle prod.

On the way to the hospital, I was enjoying an apple and we were talking about if the baby was born today, we should give him or her a math associated name.  I refer to Rory as my Square Root baby since he was born on 3/3/09.  I’m not even a math geek, but it seemed appropriate.  Unfortunately, neither Ryan nor I could come up with a good name that somehow represented our son’s arithmetical birth date and thus he ended up with the name, Rory.

Although Rory had a bit of a rough start, he was in the NICU for 12 days with an infection; you would never know it looking at him today.  If I didn’t know better, I would have thought they put some extra naughty juice in his IV when he was in the NICU.  My little guy is constantly keeping me on my toes.  What he lacks in stature, he makes up for in personality.  Some may say he has a bit of a Napoleon Complex.  I am beyond thankful that Rory is exactly how he is and that I am his mom.

Today, we’re celebrating my BIG little boy.  He gets to eat whatever he wants all day long and dictate our activities so we’ll see what he comes up with.  That will be a post for tomorrow.
