Another Holiday!

YAY!  It’s International Women’s Day!  I’m a 35 year old woman, but I am not familiar with this day at all.  I have not looked up the reason behind declaring today International Women’s Day and before I do, I’m just going out on a limb and say this was declared as such to throw all of us hard working women a bone.  And by bone, I don’t mean penis.

I don’t consider myself to be a feminist.  Of course I think women should be given the same opportunities as men, receive equal pay and should never be discriminated against because of their sex and I intend to make sure my children think the same way.

One of the reasons I may not take more of a feminist attitude is because I don’t feel like I have ever been discriminated against because I was a girl (I don’t like calling myself a woman.  It seems more like a term for “girls” over 60).  I don’t think many parents ever tell their kids they can’t do or play with certain things because they are a boy or a girl, but I’m guessing boys get the short end of the stick (no pun intended) when it comes to playing dress up or playing with dolls.  Such is not the case in my house because silence is much more important than any irrelevant study stating gender confusion. One thing is for sure, I am glad I’m a girl.  In the words of Elaine Benes, “I don’t know how you guys walk around with those things.”

And….
